Michael Perri Bio

Michael Perri is a truthful actor/writer who can embrace the unexpected moment and live it truthfully under imaginary circumstances. Dramatic and comedy acting be it scripted or non-is Michael’s area of expertise. Just watch some of the choices he makes on film. It could be the smallest low budget film or part, but you’d never know, because he is living it.

Michael wants to help share his gift for comedy through his spirit and contagious laughter. Michael is a charismatic natural self-taught observer who has the ability to cooperate and go with the flow. Mr. Perri has an amazing amount of organic optimism. “I never heard my mom complain ever! I guess that’s where I get it. When I was in my senior year of high school I was diagnosed with psoriasis. It took two long years of seeing doctors and my own research and then slowly, I healed my self. I called it the Madonna effect, I learned it from her in an interview, just because it’s written or someone say’s it so, doesn’t mean its fact. I wrote to the Psoriasis Foundation of America, about my ordeal, recovery and how I healed myself of this major disease. I never heard back from them.”

Early one morning in late March, Michael Perri was born in Park Slope Brooklyn N.Y. the youngest of 6 children.

Michael started working on things very young. “It was a Brooklyn smart, tough childhood. One day I had a blue collar, the next day was a white collar.” “In my neighborhood growing up there were hookers on the corner, stripped cars everywhere and graffiti decorated the walls of the buildings. I learned a lot about things you just don’t learn in a classroom.”

Michael learned really young about discipline, how things work and how to put them together. “It just all made sense to me including school.”

Michael’s senior year in high school was full of work. He was waking up at 5am to work in a bagel store then go to school where he took early morning college credit classes. Michael would come home from school and go deliver pizza and still had time to participate in the school play. “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying”.

When Michael was 17 he picked up a hammer one night and broke a wall and went into home repair and started one room at a time and two years later and a bunch of mistakes he completely renovated his family’s 3 family home in Brooklyn.

Michael went off to college and graduated with a BA of Science in corporate communications and Associates in business while going on auditions and working 2 jobs.

Michael also attended the prestigious three-year acting conservatory in NYC with renowned teacher William Esper. “I never read anything I liked as a kid, and then I was so fortunate to have a 45 minute train ride each way to read and learn all the greats.”

Michael was still hustling, going on auditions and working 2 part time jobs. Michael got a break that would change his life. He went on an audition for Johnny Nunzio in Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding, an Off-Broadway interactive comedy hit in it’s 22nd year and still running today. He booked the part and honed his acting and improv skills in front of a live audience 6-8 times a week. “At the show, I was really fortunate to meet people from all over the world and interact with them and their families. If my bit didn’t work, I just thought about why and would make changes until it worked or dug a comedy grave and let it rest. You really learn how to trust yourself. That show was a great training ground if you wanted to work, it was sort of like the movie Ground Hog Day with Bill Murray, only you had a new chance every show to create.”

One night while performing at Tony N Tina’s Wedding, Michael would have another life changing moment. He met a commercial agent at Top talent agency SEM&M and one week after that meeting he was on a plane to Italy to shoot his first commercial for Bertoli Olive Oil. Michael has booked over two-dozen various voice-over campaigns and an assortment of TV commercials.

When the SAG strike happened, the commercial and voice over business slowed. Michael lost a major account. He didn’t make a fuss about it with the union. He went and auditioned for the renowned teacher Wynn Handyman over in Carnegie Hall and was accepted into Wynn’s class. Mr. Perri also placed an ad on Craigslist.org as a handyman for hire in NYC. “My buddy came up with the idea after I helped him install shelves in his tiny Soho apartment to his brick wall.” Michael started doing handyman work all over the city and played that part well.

A writer named Stephen Miliolti from New York Magazine was writing about finding a handy man and used Michael for job and wrote about his experience with Michael’s service. “The next thing I knew I was the entire page 46 of New York Magazine, it was amazing”. That led Michael to a lot of work and some celebrity clients.

Mr. Perri was able to take the next step in his career and save enough money to make it to Hollywood and hang up his tool belt.

Since being in LA, Michael has hit the ground running with out representation. “Some self promotion here if I may”. I am looking for the right people who are professional and want to take a journey forward and yet understand talent, sharing, growth, careers, contradiction and communication. If you’re out there I’d love to have a meeting and see how high we can fly.”

Mr. Perri’s first gig in LA was a supporting role in the feature film “A Line In The Sand” starring Bruce McGill and Jon Bernthal. He then booked a show called, “Brothers of Invention” produced by, Beyond Productions, as a host. It is currently being shopped.

In two years Michael has done over 62 shorts, features, commercials, hosting gigs and student films. “I believe in work begets work and learning by doing.” Michael’s next film break came when he auditioned for “A Man Of the World” and booked a part co-starring with Hollywood screen legend Ed Asner. “I will never forget my experience with Ed a true professional.”

Michael also just completed his 3rd of 10 episodes of his TV series “Making Up The Truth”. It’s about Michael’s eccentric dad who led two secret lives for 20 years and taped it all.

Mr. Perri can currently been seen in a Michelob National Spot and Chapstick spot. “I love it here in L.A. but I miss my family immensely. Being an artist and being outspoken and expressing my self is how I live my life. I have learned to keep learning, to be ok with contradictions because that grows the spirit. Some of it is how you live your life, so share and learn from each other and of course bring the comedy because it's funny.  It can be so funny. Being is what gives you your chutzpah.”
